  • Jeff Bedard
“As I finished the 2006 Boston Marathon at 4:35.00 I made a promise to myself that I would never run another marathon. Then something happened that made me change my mind. One of my best friends lost his Dad this year from melanoma. Another friend lost her Sister to melanoma. Still another friend was diagnosed with melanoma and is in the battle and willing to do everything possible to win the fight. How could I walk away from the battle when so much more is to be accomplished?”
  • Graig Hoffman
“Can the former 300lb. football player make it to the finish line of the Boston Marathon? Even though it is 10 years later and I'm 100 lbs lighter, my ability to run distances of 2-3 miles was difficult. So as you could imagine, running a 26.2 mile marathon seemed very overwhelming and an impossible task. I had a decision to make...I saw an opportunity to personally get involved in the cause of the Shade Foundation and I wanted to challenge myself personally to complete a goal that I viewed as unattainable.”
  • Rachel Martin
" I am a mother of two, Olivia and Ethan Martin. I am a homemaker and active volunteer in the community. I am currently in the process of getting my yoga certification with the National Yoga Alliance. I am also very interested in preventative health and running the marathon for SHADE will help bring awareness to preventative skin health."
  • Andrea Crowley
"To run the Boston Marathon and raise money for the SHADE Foundation has been a goal of since I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma 2 years ago. I was 33-years-old with 3 kids (1, 3 and 6years), an amazing husband, and was completely devastated when I heard I had skin cancer. By running the marathon and raising money, I hope to make others aware of the harmful effects of the sun and how to appreciate it, not worship it or be afraid of it. So, wear sun block and cover up!"
  • Lin Valera
“I'm honored to be running my first full marathon, Boston, as member of the SHADE Foundation Team. I’m running each mile of this race for someone special in my life. I don't want to think about time on April 16th, we all do enough of that. Instead, I'd rather reflect about what and who matters to me. So I'll have 26 different reasons to run on this day, the last 0.2 is for myself."
