Who the Proceeds Benefit: Your support will benefit the community
of Sarasota as we launch skin cancer prevention
programs in local schools and community organizations.
Over two million people in the US will be
diagnosed with skin cancer this year. More
new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed than
breast, lung, prostate and colon cancers
combined. Help prevent the one in five children
who will grow up to develop skin cancer in
their lifetime by supporting the start up
of a new SHADE chapter in Sarasota.
About
SHADE Foundation of America:
SHADE Foundation was founded in 2002 by
Shonda Schilling during her public battle
with melanoma. Over two million cases of
skin cancer are diagnosed every year in
the US. Twenty people a day die from melanoma.
Our goal is to reduce the odds of 1 child
in 5 growing up to develop skin cancer through
education and prevention. SHADE has provided
over 100 million hours of SHADE covering
for children at schools and communities
across the country. Over 100,000 K-8 students
from 46 states and DC have taken part in
SunWise with SHADE Poster Contest showing
their knowledge of sun safety and level
of education received, and providing evidence
of the success of our program. Two hours
of SunWise education reduces sunburns by
11%. Through the SHADE web site we provide
a free award winning skin cancer self exam
video, and a personal clinical trials matching
service for melanoma patients.
