More than the typical celebrity endorser, Shonda Schilling will be relying on Reebok when she runs the Boston Marathon tomorrow.

Sunshine is in the forecast, but unlike other runners, the Red Sox pitcher's wife, a skin-cancer survivor, won't have the luxury of shedding layers as temperatures rise.

"No sports bra and tank top for me," said the 37-year-old Schilling, who will run with her younger brother, Mark, to raise money for The Shade Foundation, the charity she and Curt founded after she was diagnosed four years ago. The Shade Foundation raises money for shade structures to be installed over school playgrounds and Little League dugouts.

Along with an extra-thick layer of Blue Lizard sun block, Schilling will wear pieces from Reebok's line of Play Dry clothes, featuring fabric that moves moisture away from her body - so even though she will be more covered than most, she won't be much warmer. Reebok also has outfitted her with special sunglasses that provide sun protection.

The outfit is health-minded, said Reebok marketing manager Michelle Ave, but it doesn't sacrifice comfort. "You don't want your apparel to remind you you're running," she said.

Running Boston's marathon has been on Schilling's mind since that famous Thanksgiving when Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein came to Phoenix to woo Curt. She has trained since August, and ran an Arizona marathon in January. That day, she and Curt recall fondly, he and their four kids waited for her at the finish line.

"Curt cried for me. It was such a great role-reversal," Schilling said.

Said the famed pitcher, who knows a thing or two about overcoming physical adversity: "It was very emotional."

Curt Schilling, who said long-distance running is "too damn boring" for his taste, said he hopes to be at the finish line again tomorrow - provided he's done pitching the traditional early Patriots Day game at Fenway.

"She's never missed a home game," he said. "We're having a tough time coordinating."

For her part, Shonda Schilling said running the marathon has had its challenges - traveling so much with Curt and raising four kids forced her to train solo - but also many benefits.

For one thing, "(it's) taken my life back. I can be part of outdoor life."

It's also gotten her out of the shadow of her husband's superstar athlete persona - at least, for a few moments.

"My kids (are) so excited over something Ican do," she said.
