WHOLE FOODS MARKET TEAMS WITH SHADE- THE CURT & SHONDA SCHILLING MELANOMA FOUNDATION OF AMERICA

PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. (June 4, 2003) -- Whole Foods Market, the leader in natural and organic supermarkets, brings its tradition of community involvement and goodwill to Paradise Valley through a partnership with SHADE, The Curt & Shonda Schilling Melanoma Foundation of America. Paradise Valley Whole Foods Market, located at 10810 N. Tatum Blvd. (corner of Tatum and Shea), will host its first annual golf tournament in an effort to raise $5,000 to place a sun-protective shade covering over the playground at Paradise Valley Tesseract School.
"Whole Foods Market is proud to partner with SHADE, commented Whole Foods' Store Team Leader Bill Cano. We are happy to provide the opportunity for our customers and Team Members to band together to give back to the community and help keep our children safe from skin cancer."
The day will begin Friday, June 27th at Stone Creek Golf Course with a 7 AM shotgun start. If community members do not play golf, but still want to help children stay safely out of the sun they may sponsor a Whole Foods Team Member to play in the tournament. Vegetas Company will provide a gift basket for closest to the pin and Whole Foods will award a gift certificate for the longest drive. The SHADE Foundation was established in August of 2002 by Shonda Schilling, wife of Diamondback Pitcher, Curt Schilling. Shonda was diagnosed with, and treated for, malignant Melanoma in 2001. After 5 operations removing 25 melanomas from her body, today Shonda is cancer free and has dedicated herself to raising awareness for sun-safety.
