(October 4, 2004- Scottsdale, AZ) The SHADE Foundation of America is proud to announce it will be one of the official charities of the "P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll" Arizona Marathon taking place on Sunday, January 9, 2005. SHADE Foundation of America Founder, Shonda Schilling, the wife of Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, will lead the Run For SHADE Team by participating in the marathon. The marathon, which is 26.2 miles, will begin at 7:40 a.m. and have the runners traveling through Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe, Arizona.

"The success of the 'P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll' Marathon is tremendous. I am so excited to go back to Arizona and be part of this fantastic event," said Shonda Schilling from Boston, MA. "Having the opportunity to run in the marathon is another way for myself and for the SHADE Foundation to spread the word about skin cancer prevention."

Shonda Schilling has set a goal to raise $25,000 herself for the SHADE Foundation. Her husband, Curt Schilling, has offered to match each donation made to Shonda’s fundraising team, dollar-for-dollar, totaling $50,000 for the SHADE Foundation. The funds raised will be used to establish an at-risk family skin cancer registry in Arizona. To find out information on sponsoring Shonda Schilling or to join the Run For SHADE team, visit www.ShadeFoundation.org.

Last year, the marathon raised over $4.5 million dollars and represented five charities. There are 34,000 anticipated runners taking part in the 2005 marathon.

Founded in August 2002, the idea for the SHADE Foundation was conceived by melanoma survivor, Shonda Schilling. One in five children will grow up to develop skin cancer. SHADE strives to increase sun-safety awareness starting at a young age in an effort to eliminate this statistic.
