SHADE Foundation of America Founder, Shonda Schilling, receives Gold Triangle Award from the American Academy of Dermatology.


SHADE Founder, Shonda Schilling with Gold Triangle Awards Ceremony hosts Anthony Ruivivar and Yvonne Jung from NBC's drama 'Third Watch'.

(July 31, 2004-- New York, NY) Shonda Schilling, founder of the SHADE Foundation of America, received an American Academy of Dermatology Gold Triangle Award at the 8th annual Gold Triangle Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening at the Hilton New York.

Gold Triangle awards annually recognize and honor media, industry, health community, public service and individual efforts that further the understanding of dermatologic issues and encourage healthy behaviors. Shonda Schilling received an individual achievement Gold Triangle Award for her work as founder of the SHADE Foundation of America and her collaborative efforts promoting the AAD's "Play It Smart When It Comes To the Sun" screening program.

At the age of, 33 Shonda Schilling was diagnosed with melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer. Five operations and 25 scars later, Shonda Schilling is today cancer free and a true champion in the fight against skin cancer. The wife of Boston Red Sox all-star pitcher Curt Schilling, Shonda reaches new audiences through SHADE, educating children, promoting a sun-safety policy in schools, securing sun-protective shade coverings over top of playgrounds and overseeing a SunWise program with the EPA.
