Public Service Announcements (PSAs)

THE SHADE FOUNDATION "STAY SHADED" PSA DEBUTS BEFORE DIAMONDBACKS GAME DURING SKIN CANCER AWARENESS DAY AT BANK ONE BALLPARK!

Curt & Shonda Schilling offer sun-safety tips in Public Service Announcement.

(Scottsdale, AZ-April 29, 2003) Arizona Diamondback pitcher Curt Schilling and his wife, melanoma survivor Shonda Schilling, will debut The SHADE Foundation's "Stay Shaded" Public Service Announcement at the Arizona Diamondback's game on Monday evening, May 5th. Shonda Schilling is the founder of The SHADE Foundation which produced the 30 second sun-safety PSA in coordination with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"Our goal is to teach proper sun-safety habits. It is important that kids learn how to protect themselves at a young age," says Shonda Schilling. "I wish I was told these basic tips as a child. We hope this PSA will make people reconsider their sun habits."

The SHADE Foundation's "STAY SHADED" PSA reminds everyone to protect themselves and their loved ones by putting on sunscreen of SPF 15 or more every two hours, by wearing hats, sunglasses and long sleeves and most importantly to "stay shaded." The PSA will run during the Diamondback games and on local television stations.

Each year over 10,000 Americans die a preventable death from Skin Cancer. One out of 5 kids is expected to develop skin cancer during his or her lifetime. The SHADE Foundation's "Stay Shaded" PSA gives the public sun-safety tips that will save lives.

The SHADE Foundation was founded in 2002 by Shonda Schilling to educate the public about melanoma prevention and early detection. Shonda Schilling battled melanoma throughout the Diamondbacks' World Series season in 2001. After five operations removing 25 malignant melanomas from her body, today Shonda is cancer free and has dedicated her life to sun-safety.
