Congratulations to our 2010 SunWise with SHADE National Poster Contest Winner, Kayla from Vermont!

Our 5^th grade win­ner has the mes­sage exactly right!  You can enjoy being out­doors in the sun and still be safe.  Thank you to every­one who par­tic­i­pated this year and to those of you who voted.  We know through the vot­ing por­tion of this con­test that at least 119,000 view­ers saw sun safety messages!

Wow! Congratulations to all who sub­mit­ted posters this year.  We received over 11,000 posters from 38 states and they were great!  It was a dif­fi­cult job this year for the judges on April 13^th in Washington DC to pick the state win­ners.

Register here and you will get an entry form already filled out with your infor­ma­tion that you can sim­ply print off for each stu­dent. You will also receive occa­sional reminders and updates about the poster con­test. You will also have the oppor­tu­nity to learn more about the SunWise pro­gram and request a free SunWise toolkit.

The cri­te­ria for poster judg­ing will be based on how well the poster expresses the sun safety mes­sages in an orig­i­nal, cre­ative and thought­ful man­ner. Crayons, mark­ers and paints make more col­or­ful posters than do pens and pen­cils. Posters should illus­trate the mes­sages rather than write them. Judging will take place in Washington DC on April 13, 2010. State win­ners will be announced on April 16, 2010.

New This Year!

Posters will be judged in two cat­e­gories: kinder­garten through 3^rd grade and 4^th through 8^th grade.

Prizes

Kindergarten through 3^rd Grade

• 5 win­ners will receive a Crayola Digital Camera Scrapbooking Kit, includ­ing an EZ Grip Digital Camera, a hard shell match­ing cam­era case, a photo edit­ing CD, USB cable and a scrap­book with col­ored paper, mark­ers and stickers.
• The class­rooms of these 5 win­ners will receive a UV Index Sun Station, UV color change beads, a UV color change Frisbee and a gal­lon of Blue Lizard Suncream.

4^th through 8^th Grade

• A state win­ner will be selected from each state .  Each state win­ning stu­dent will receive a Digital Camera and a cer­tifi­cate of achievement.
• Classrooms of win­ning stu­dents will receive a UV Index Sun Station,  UV color change beads,  a UV color change Frisbee and a gal­lon of Blue Lizard Suncream.

National Winner

• The win­ner of the on-line vot­ing for the 2010 SunWise with SHADE National Poster Contest will receive a fam­ily trip to Walt Disney World.
• The school will win a WeatherBug Weather Station and software.
• The class­room will receive a smart-board.

By sub­mit­ting a poster, the entrant gives a per­pet­ual, roy­alty free license to U.S. EPA and the SHADE Foundation to copy, dis­trib­ute, make deriv­a­tive works and pub­licly dis­play the sub­mit­ted poster.  Prizes are sub­ject to change and restric­tions.  Home school win­ning stu­dents will receive the stu­dent prize but the school and class­room prizes will be awarded to a school in the win­ning student’s state.
