Swingset Mamas

The Swingset Mamas – two rockin' moms whose playful tunes blend terrific musicianship with heartfelt parenting tips – are urging families everywhere to practice sun-safe habits this summer with their surf-themed "Sunscreen Dance." It is featured as a resource on the Environmental Protection Agency's Sunwise program website, and it will be a key part of their repertoire at music festivals across the U.S. this spring and summer.

The Swingset Mamas are keyboard player Marlowe Bechmann and guitarist Lizzie Swan, award-winning singer-songwriters who infuse their rock-flavored music with their own mom-tested wisdom. Their new DVD, "Swing, Dance and Sing" just won a 2008 Parents Choice Award, a 2008 iParenting Media Award, and the family approval from the Dove Foundation.

"Sunscreen Dance" was inspired by a close friend's diagnosis with Stage Four melanoma just after giving birth to her second child. Her harrowing bout led to the Mamas' current crusade to raise awareness about this highly-preventable, often fatal disease. Happily, their friend recovered and has been cancer-free for almost five years.

"We hope that through our music, parents and kids will make sun-safe habits like applying sunscreen an automatic part of their lives," said Bechmann and Swan.

SUNSCREEN DANCE
by the Swingset Mamas

Verse 1

Playing outside is so much fun,
Skipping in the sand out in the sun.
But don't forget to protect your skin,
The part of the body that we're living in, so…
Grab a bottle from the top of the shelf.
I'll show you a way to protect yourself --
>From New Jersey to Hawaii to the South of France,
Everyone's doin' the sunscreen dance.

Chorus

Sunscreen lotion, get the notion.
Sunscreen lotion, it's a magic potion.
Sunscreen lotion, feel the motion.
Sunscreen lotion, causin' a commotion.
Re-apply after you swim in the ocean --
We're doin' the Sunscreen dance.

Dance

OK, everybody; grab your sunscreen; here we go.…
Rub it on your arms and rub it on your shoulders.
Rub it on your cheeks, your ears and your nose.
Don't forget your lips, your tummy and your hips.
Glide your fingers from your legs to your toes.
We're almost done, now, that's a fact,
So grab a partner and rub it on your back -- Yeaaah.

Instrumental

Verse 2

The sun shines strongest from 10 to 4.
Put on a hat and shades as you head out the door.
And don't forget that even on cloudy days,
You're still exposed to ultraviolet rays.

Chorus

Sunscreen lotion, get the notion.
Sunscreen lotion, it's a magic potion.
Sunscreen lotion, feel the motion.
Sunscreen lotion, causin' a commotion.
Re-apply after you swim in the ocean.
We're doin' the Sunscreen dance.
We're doin' the Sunscreen dance.
Rub it in, save your skin.
Rub it in, save your skin.

Repeat and fade
